In Character Rules
The following rules must be adhered to for the role-play forum categories of this site.
GENERAL ROLE-PLAYING RULES
The following rules must be adhered to for the role-play forum categories of this site.
GENERAL ROLE-PLAYING RULES
All members are responsible for reading and obeying the rules outlined on this page. Those who do not, are doing so at their own risk. Ignorance will not be an excuse accepted by moderators or the site administrator.
This should be rule number one, the golden rule. Respect all players and treat them like you'd like to be treated.
If moderators or the site administrator send you a private message or openly comments on something involving rules or makes a general comment, please understand its in the best interest of RPG Forums Online that (s)he does so and do not challenge them.
Each participating member of a role-play thread must try to stay within the role-playing element as described by the thread creator.
Do not make two or more posts in a row in a thread. This enables one section of role-play to be truly interactive between participating members and means that theme and direction of the role-play thread is not always one-sided.
Do not spam or use emoticons or smilies in a thread or some other method of sabotage (such as speech that has nothing pertaining to the basis of the original idea of the thread) to make a thread look in a way which angers the thread maker, moderators and/or site administrator.
Mature and adult content, which includes sexual behaviour, the use of extreme swear words or extreme violence, must be limited to the "Mature Content" RP category.
If someone, without playing in role, is to kill, harm or in other words endanger another member of RPG Forums Online, that member will be suspended or banned. If one personally attacks someone because of race, ethnicity or beliefs, the same consequences will follow.
IC (IN CHARACTER) RULES:
- When 'IC' is referred to by a moderator, the site administrator or another member, it is referring to your actual forum thread where you are playing out your story In Character.
- People do have different styles of RPing. Some like to RP in first person, others in third. Please ask the author of the thread which they would prefer and abide by their decision for the sake of consistency and respect for their creative direction.
- When role-playing, you must stay in character, meaning that you characters speeches, thoughts and actions must all pertain to the settings and character story presented in the thread creator.
- A word on writing: No one is demanding spelling or grammar to be perfect, but correct capitalization and punctuation is highly encouraged. So please, please, no 'i' or substitution of 'u' or 'r' for 'you' and 'are'. Most browsers have spell check now, or do what many do and type your post in a word document first.
- Each post/reply must have at least 6 to 7 lines - posts any smaller are not conveying any sort of depth to your character. Try for at least a paragraph or two in every post. If you find that all you have to say at that point is a one or two worded reply to someone’s conversation, PM them and ask if maybe you could both do a joint post until it gets to a point where you can pad your posts a bit more.
- When communicating or interacting with other members, remember you can only control your own character and all that you know of another player is depending on he/she actions and words. Controlling another character will not be tolerated and can only be done if communicated with the actual member you wish to manipulate in your post.
- Killing of fellow role-players is not allowed, unless the 'target' player wishes to end their role-play part in a thread and death is a suitable way to leave the role-play thread, taking into account the initial role-play settings and character story.
- If you have made a mistake and need a moderator or another role-player to come to the attention of something, please PM the Moderator for this forum.
- Every IC thread MUST have an OOC thread for character profiles, plot points and discussions.
Theme Content
Traditional Fantasy: For themes along the lines of LotRs, featuring wizards, thieves and warriors, orcs, goblins and elves, etc. This section could also include any RP taking part in a setting where magic rules over technology and said technology is near non-existent.
Modern Fantasy: For themes along the lines of World of Darkness or a setting where technology is as far along as it is now or slightly more/less so. These RPs can also have magic or other fantastic elements and could also contain the Vampiric themes.
Realistic Eras: For themes along the lines of true-to-life settings of the Wild West, Dark Ages, Japanese eras, World Wars, etc. Magic does not exist in these RPs or is very rare, only having to do with spiritualism or acts of "God". Fantastic elements are just as rare and have no place in these RPs. Futuristic settings can be found here as well however it would be considered "the near future" where advancements are realistic.
Sci-Fi Fantasy: For themes along the lines of Star Wars, Star Trek, or a setting where technology leaps far ahead of what is in the current world. These RPs can also have magic or other fantastic elements.
Mature Fantasy: For themes based upon any of the above themes that also feature more mature content and may include graphic violence, abusive language and sexual content. All role-plays that feature sexual content must have a 'sexual content warning displayed in the role-play's subject/title, in parenthesis. e.g. A role-play called "Close Encounters" should appear as "Close Encounters (Sexual content)". Note: This RP category is not be to used as a breeding ground for pornographic material or using abusive, vulgar language 'just for the sake of it'. As always, the forum moderators and site administrations will use their digression on what is acceptable and what is not. Inappropriate posts will be removed. Sex for the sake of sex is NOT encouraged and will not be tolerated.
