Features of The Lost Archives
While The Lost Archives contains a number of features that remain the same from the old board, we do have a variety of new features for your enjoyment.
The Home Page
Just like most RP sites, we have a home page. This will be updated regularly with news, events, exciting little tid-bits and anything else we think that our member base needs to know. We will also be offering a variety of new sections as the site gets established, such as the ability to apply for a “Featured Spot” on the front page, where your up-and-coming RP can be advertised. Our Member of the Month will be listed on the front page as well. Also on the front page, you can see the Calendar, which will show birthdays and events, and the Bookmarked Threads box, where threads that you want to Bookmark will show up there for your easy access. There is also a little box to let you know at a glance if you have any PM’s waiting for your attention.
The Shout Box
The Shout Box is the same as it has always been. It has the option to either hit the Send button to send a message, or simply hit Enter on your keyboard.
The News Feed
The News Feed is located at the top of each page, just under the Navigational Menu. It will have little bits of news, helpful hints, motivational messages, or whatever else we decide to throw up in there. Keep your eye on it; you may find yourself mentioned in a Shout Out!
The Forum
The Forum is laid out quite clearly in four distinct sections:
Announcements, Introductions, Help and Off-Topic Conversations
This is where you can find all of the information your need to get yourself established on the site. The Announcements thread will have important Announcements from Staff, so be sure to keep an eye on it and check it regularly. The “Remember My Name” sub-forum is a place for you to introduce yourself to the rest of the RP community on The Lost Archives. Please pop in and say hello to our new members. The Suggestion Box and Help Desk is where you can receive help with a Forum-related issue, or make a suggestion about the site. Feedback is always welcomed. Off-Topic is a place for Off-Topic games or other threads. Please make sure you have a look through the current threads before starting a brand new one. Double-ups of threads are pointless and the latest one will be deleted.
The Guild Hall
The Guild Hall is for those with common interests, outside of writing. Currently, we have the Artisans Guild and the Settlers Guild. The Artisans is catered to those of us who have an interest in graphics or designing images. If you do commissions or are happy to make sets for people, feel free to ‘set up shop’ here.
The Settlers Guild is where those of you who are new to the site can come, link up with other Newbies and receive some extra assistance or inspiration. You can find some great writing resources here, as well as some patient members who are happy to take you under their wing if needs be.
The Role Play Arena and The Printing Press
These sections of the site are very self-explanatory, with a description of each sub-forum attached clearly visible when you are looking at the board. Please make sure that you have read all of the Rules and Regulations for this site before you begin posting here. Problematic, inappropriate or misplaced posts will be deleted from these sections.
Help
If you are confused with how this kind of board works, you can either ask one of the Staff, or click the Help link at the top of the page. It links to ProBoards Help system, which can answer any questions you may have.
Search
The Search function on this site is extremely detailed and will easily allow you to find whatever it is you need on the site. You do not have to fill in every bit of criteria to find what you are looking for.
Calendar
Clicking on the Calendar shows a monthly view of the birthdays and events of The Lost Archives. Please check in regularly and maybe wish your fellow writers a Happy Birthday either via PM or via the Birthday Thread in Off Topic.
Members
When you click this tab, you can see a list of all the members of The Lost Archives, as well as their Group Memberships and Ranking
You can also sort by any one of the fields available. For example, if you wish to find a list of all the staff members, you can click “Groups/Ranking” and all the staff members will be clumped together at the top of the page.
Messages
Your messages have a few new features. One such feature is the “Quick Reply” feature. Much like it works for replies in threads, the Quick Reply feature allows you to fire off a quick reply. Also, all of your messages are stored in one thread, so no more clicking backwards and forwards to try and remember what that message you just received was a reply too.
Also, you can now send messages to multiple members of the site, which is a great idea if you need to have a group conversation about your RP, or you need to send a message to all those who are involved in you RP.
To send a message, click “Create Message” and then start typing that persons username in the little “Enter a Username” box. If you forget how to spell that persons name, but remember it starts with an ‘A’ just place an ‘A’ in the box, and all members with an A in their name will show up. You can do this for multiple members.
The Settings table next to the subject (the little cog shaped thing) allows you to either send the message to individual recipients together (group convo) or separately (separate threads with each individual member, but the same message goes out). It is up to you, whichever you prefer.
