RP Rules for OOC Posts
The Out Of Character (OOC) sections of the forum are a place for formulating ideas, plots and communicating with RP partners. The OOC section of the site is NOT for In-Character (IC) thoughts, posts or one-on-one roleplaying. There are five in-character sub-sections (Traditional, Modern, Realistic, Science Fiction and Mature Fantasy) where your IC interactions should take place. Any IC posts or threads found within any OOC section will be deleted.
OOC (OUT OF CHARACTER) RULES
2. When joining a game, please respect the author of the thread and creator of the plot. Follow their directions and/or character sheets. It is their creativity being used; take that into consideration.
Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated - this is your only warning. Also, if you are unsure if a game is open and accepting, or what limits there are, don't feel too intimidated - just ask! Generally RPs that are closed to new members have [Closed] added to their thread title.
3. When posting an idea or an interest check, state valid thoughts and ideas of your own creativity. DO NOT STEAL IDEAS FROM YOUR FELLOW MEMBERS AND WRITE THEM OFF AS YOUR OWN. That is plagiarism and tacky. See the Courtesy Call Policy for further details on "reviving" or "remaking" a plot that has lost interest or has become dead.
Note: Be sure to post an idea or actual plot, that is what this section is for. Blank or empty content posts will be overlooked, locked, or moved based on relevancy.
3. There is absolutely no need for members to have arguments in the OOC that involve unintelligent racial slang, profanity, improper gestures and/or crude images or content. If you disagree with something that the creator of the thread or another member writing in the thread has said, you have two options:
- PM the person directly and ask for clarification or put forward your own ideas as to why you disagree in a polite and respectful manner and see if maybe you guys can meet halfway.
- Leave the thread.
Arguments, snide or hurtful comments, whether active or passive, will NOT be tolerated. Your first offense will result in a warning and then you will be banned.
4. When role-playing, you must stay in character in the IC thread, so please do not post out of character posts in the IC thread. That is why you have an OOC thread.
5. Be aware that this area gets hit hard with spammers. Do your best to ignore the posts and let the site administrators, globals or moderators deal with the problem. Commenting on a spammer's work will only provoke them and give them the attention that they want. If none of the site staff have responded, feel free to bring it to our attention. It is easy to miss over a spammer's post.
6. If you wish to create a thread that will be placed in the Mature forum, please use “Mature” in the title of the thread somewhere. That way underage members and those who do not have access to that forum will not join your RP and then be disappointed when they realize they went to all that effort to create this really amazing character for an RP they cannot participate in.
7. One-on-One RP’s are common on the site, but please remember to list them in the following ways:
If you are looking for a RP partner and you have an idea, please use the title, or even genre of your thread and state you’re looking for a One-on-One i.e. “Pirate Themed RP – Looking For A Partner”
If you already have a partner and just need a place to has out your ideas, you would post “Pirates Life For Me (Gideon and Aya)”
This is just another courtesy for your fellow members.
General Notes
Any occurrence of out-of-bounds, irrelevant, or disrespectful posts in or relevant to the OOC should be PMed Staff immediately.
While RP authors should be respectful to those asking to join their topics, members asking to join should be equally respectful of the authors. Denying entry to an RP is an author's right and thereby Moderators do not have authority to override.
Authors who for any reason drop their running RPs or RP ideas are encouraged to give others permission to carry on the RP without them. Sometimes an author or member will leave, and the RP will die. Explicitly giving members permission to take over characters, plot, etc, gives the RP a chance to keep going despite the loss.
The Courtesy Call Policy is just that, a policy. It is a polite suggestion, not an edict from the powers that be. It is for everyone's benefit, and forgetting to adhere to it is not a punishable offense.
RP authors are encouraged to give allowance for others to continue their RP in the event of their prolonged absence even before that absence occurs. If an RP topic starts, it is good for the author to have someone involved in the RP to be given this privilege, so that if an author goes off site for a month or more, the RP does not die off.[/ul]
